Manchester City star Raheem Sterling has broken his silence over rumours linking him with a sensational move to Arsenal in the summer transfer window.
With Pep Guardiola intent on bringing Alexis Sanchez to the Etihad ahead of the 2017/18 campaign, the Gunners wanted Sterling in any potential deal, but the proposed switch never materialised.
The 22-year-old England winger insists he ‘did not think for one minute’ about moving to the Emirates and sees his long-term future at City under Guardiola.
Asked about the rumours, Sterling said: ‘I didn’t need to speak with him [Pep] because I already spoke with him in the summer about pre-season.
‘I didn’t have any negative thoughts or anything bad about it. I just woke up one day with England, seen it, and did not believe a single word of it. Until I heard something from the manager…then I would believe it.
‘It wasn’t something that I was worried about because Pep is an honest guy and he would have spoke to me before that.
‘I didn’t need to worry about it and I didn’t think about it – not for one minute.’
Asked if he sees his long-term future with City, Sterling responded: ‘Yeah. I’ve signed five years here.
‘I’ve got two and a half years left. I see myself here, playing my football here under a great manager and with a great team.’
