Manchester United will open talks with Jose Mourinho over a new contract following the manager’s recent remarks about Paris Saint-Germain, according to reports.

The Portuguese sparked speculation he could leave Old Trafford far sooner than expected when he admitted United would not be the last club he managed, while also praising PSG.

Mourinho – who has made a fantastic start to the new campaign – only has 18 months to run on his current deal, though there is the option for an additional year.

But according to the Daily Mail, his comments about PSG appear to have had the desired effect and talks over a new deal are expected to commence in the coming months.

Although United bosses are not overly concerned by his recent remarks, they are keen for him to remain in charge long beyond 2019, when his current deal expires.

Incredibly, it has even been suggested that Mourinho – who has never completed a fourth season with any of the sides he has managed – could last a decade at Old Trafford.

Mourinho is understood to be keen to test himself as an international coach before he retires, though United are not worried about the 54-year-old pursuing that ambition any time soon.

‘I’m still a coach with worries, with ambitions, and with the desire to do new things,’ Mourinho told French television shoe Telefoot. ‘I’m sure that I won’t end my career here.

‘The other day my son who lives in London went to Paris and not to Manchester to watch the match. At the moment in Paris there is something special. Magic, quality, youth, it’s fantastic.’
