Arsenal have pushed back Calum Chambers’ return date with the defender yet to return to training as he continues to struggle with a hip injury.

Chambers, who joined Arsenal from Southampton in 2014, signed a new contract at the Emirates last week despite enduring a difficult start to the 2017-18 campaign.

A hip injury ensured he missed the first six weeks of the season and Chambers lasted just 45 minutes on his return to action in the Carabao Cup victory over Doncaster Rovers.

Arsene Wenger had hoped the 22-year-old would miss just two weeks of action and could possibly feature at Watford last weekend but Chambers remains sidelined.

Football London say the defender is yet to return to training, meaning he will likely remain in the treatment room for the rest of the month and miss the upcoming fixtures against Red Star Belgrade, Everton, Norwich City and Swansea City.

The Gunners’ encouraging run came to an abrupt halt at Vicarage Road on Saturday as Watford came from behind to clinch a 2-1 win in injury-time.

Arsenal will be without centre-back Shkodran Mustafi for around six weeks after the German suffered a thigh injury during the international break.

Alexis Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey are expected to be fit for the trip to Goodison Park on Sunday, however, after the pair missed the defeat at Watford.
