Arsene Wenger named an incredibly experimental line-up on Thursday for Arsenal’s Europa League tie with Red Star Belgrade.

Frenchman Mathieu Debuchy was given his first start in 11 months while Mohamed Elneny dropped into a centre-back role.

Youngsters Joe Willock, Ashley Maitland-Niles and Reiss Nelson were in midfield while irregular starters Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshere and Olivier Giroud were in attack.

Meanwhile the bench didn’t feature a single player with experience.

Many Arsenal fans questioned Arsene Wenger’s thinking…

However, there could be a silver lining. Arsenal fans have been desperate since the start of the season to see their strongest attacking trio (at least on paper) starting together.

Since the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette for a club-record fee, the Frenchman is yet to start alongside Arsenal’s big name duo – Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez – at the same time. Due to a combination of injuries and team selections, Lacazette has played with both individually, but not at the same time.

With all three not involved in Serbia, there appears to be a strong chance they will all start in Arsenal’s Premier League game with Everton on Sunday. At least that’s what Arsenal fans hope.
