Jack Wilshere hit back at Troy Deeney on Thursday night after the Watford captain suggested Arsenal player’s had no ‘cojones’.

Deeney made the comments after Watford beat Arsenal 2-1, insisting he was always up for playing against the Gunners because their players were soft.

Wilshere dismissed Deeney’s critique before Arsenal’s Europa League game against Red Star Belgrade.

And the Englishman could not help but aim another dig at Deeney after Arsenal earned a narrow win over Red Star.

‘Great character, I told you we have some,’ said Wilshere referring to Deeney on his Instagram.

‘What’s remarkable is the spirit we have shown. They defended very well, but the goal is a consequence of us wanting to play through them.’

He added: ‘I had a good angle on it [the goal].

‘It was a great combination before the goal as well and he finished well.

‘It’s important to have a good goalkeeper in this kind of game, too.

‘They came out very quickly on the counterattack and sometimes we lost the ball in an unexpected way.

‘They were dangerous and Petr Cech kept us in the game.’
