Ben Davies is in contention to start Tottenham’s clash with Liverpool on Sunday after returning to training this week.

The left-back has missed Tottenham’s last two games against Bournemouth and Real Madrid due to illness and was a doubt ahead of the match at Wembley.

But on Friday, Mauricio Pochettino confirmed that Davies is back in training and is set to regain his starting place.

Elsewhere, Danny Rose made his return from injury as a late substitute in the 1-1 draw with Real Madrid on Tuesday but Pochettino says the left-back is still not fit enough to start after being sidelined since the end of January.

‘He needs to build up his fitness but we are so happy because he’s doing very well,’ said the Tottenham manager.

‘He had the possibility to be on the bench on Tuesday. It was important for the team and to play a few minutes.

‘When you start to feel involved again and help the team, it’s so important after 10 months.

‘Now it’s a process to build up [his fitness] and get him better every day and then we’ll see if on Wednesday he has the possibility maybe to be in the starting XI.’
