Mesut Ozil was in terrific form as Arsenal downed Everton 5-2, scoring his first goal of the season and providing an assist for Alexandre Lacazette during an action-packed display.

Much has been made of the Germany international’s start to the 2017/18 campaign, with the 29-year-old being widely criticised for his performances.

With his contract expiring at the end of the season, Ozil has been heavily linked with a move away from the Emirates.

Reports claimed the World Cup winner had already told team-mates he was going to make a controversial switch to Manchester United and there were concerns that he would end his Arsenal career with a whimper.

However, the 29-year-old hit back at those doubting his commitment in style and created more opportunities (8) than any other player has throughout the entire Premier League season.

In providing an assist for Lacazette, he also established himself as the league’s assist king since his debut in September 2013.

No player has provided more assists than the 43 he’s managed in that time.

He may well trail the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva in the assist charts this season, but if he carries on like this, he’ll be up there come the end of the campaign!
