Jurgen Klopp is set to make wholesale changes to his Liverpool defence following Sunday’s disastrous performance against Tottenham, in which they shipped four goals.

The Reds were put to the sword at Wembley in a 4-1 defeat, with Dejan Lovren hauled off after just half an hour and with his side having already conceded twice.

And according to the Mirror, Lovren will be taken out of the firing line – and the starting XI – for Liverpool’s next Premier League match against Huddersfield.

Instead, Klopp will look to his emerging youth prospects, and is likely to give Joe Gomez – who shifted across to centre-back after Lovren’s substitution – an extended run in the heart of the defence.

Gomez has been competing for the right back spot with Trent Alexander-Arnold, and, with Nathaniel Clyne still injured, he is expected to come back into the starting XI.

Simon Mignolet also received a great deal of criticism in the wake of the Tottenham defeat, having rushed out overzealously for the first goal and parried the ball back into danger for the fourth.

Klopp is considering giving Loris Karius an extended run in the side to see if he can build confidence and permanently oust Mignolet from the starting team, having impressed when used against Arsenal.
