Danny Drinkwater has been handed his first start by Antonio Conte for Chelsea’s Carabao Cup clash with Everton.

The midfielder has been sidelined with a calf injury since joining from Leicester City for £35 million in the summer but makes his return for the match at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening.

Conte has made nine changes from the win over Watford with Gary Cahill and Antonio Rudiger the only players keeping their place.

Willy Caballero replaces Thibaut Courtois in goal, while Andreas Christensen returns to the side with Davide Zappacosta.

Drinkwater is expected to partner 17-year-old Ethan Ampadu in central midfield, while Kenedy could play in a more advanced role.

In attack, Michy Batshuayi is given a start after his second-half double against Watford on Saturday, while Charly Musonda is given his second start of the campaign.

For Everton, 19-year-old central midfielder Beni Baningime has been handed his debut by David Unsworth, who is in temporary charge following Ronald Koeman’s departure earlier this week.
