Leander Dendoncker has sent a come-and-get-me plea to Manchester United after being linked with a switch to Old Trafford during the summer transfer window.

The 22-year-old midfielder has made 126 appearances for Anderlecht since his debut back in 2013 but looked set for a move away from Belgium, with Paris Saint-Germain also understood to be keen.

Jose Mourinho expressed a strong interest in Dendoncker ahead of the 2017/18 campaign, with United on the hunt for a defensive midfielder, but the Red Devils instead brought Nemanja Matic to Old Trafford for a fee of £40million.

Asked about United’s pursuit in the summer, Dendocker told Sport/Foot: ‘If it was as concrete as was being said, if they wanted me at all costs, I’d already be there.

‘When you play for Anderlecht and you have the chance to go there, you don’t hesitate, but Anderlecht had their bit to say. Everyone had to agree.’

Anderlecht wanted around £34m for Dendoncker and the Belgium international understands why his club slapped such a high price on him.

He said: ‘For a club to pay what they were asking for, the club needed to be concretely interested.

‘If Anderlecht asked for a lot of money, it’s because they knew it would be difficult, and, at that time of the year, the price was over exaggerated.’
