Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho is a major doubt for his side’s clash against Huddersfield through injury.

The Brazilian sustained an abductor strain during training this week and is a doubt for the Reds’ Champions League clash with Maribor in midweek.

Huddersfield beat Manchester United 2-1 last week and will prove difficult opponents to break down at Anfield.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could come in for Coutinho as the Reds look to get their Premier League campaign back on track after a 4-1 defeat to Tottenham last week.

‘It’s not clear in the moment,’ said Klopp on Coutinho’s injury.

‘Last week he had some back problems before the Tottenham game, but then during the week it settled with treatment and all that stuff, so he was fit for the game.

‘This week he had a little bit of problem with the adductor. It’s not clear so far if he is out for tomorrow. We will make the decision today after training.

‘He didn’t train yesterday, that’s true, but that’s all for the moment. There are no other new things [injury problem].’

Meanwhile, Adam Lallana is nearing a return to action after stepping up his recovery in training.

The England international has been sidelined for two months with a thigh injury but he’s nearing contention.
