Chelsea produced arguably their worst performance of the season in 3-0 defeat at Roma and the scoreline could have been far worse for Antonio Conte’s men at the Stadio Olimpico.

A first-half double from Stephan El Shaarawy followed by Diego Perotti’s goal in the 63rd minute saw Roma come away with the win after a 3-3 draw in the sides’ opening encounter at Stamford Bridge.

Very few Chelsea players covered themselves in any glory on Tuesday evening but one moment in the second-half – involving Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger – summed up their night.

With the scoreline at 3-0, Perotti had the chance to score his second goal as a result of some of the most schoolboy defending you are likely to see in the Champions League this year.

All three Chelsea players raced towards Edin Dzeko down the right flank which left Perotti completely unmarked in front of goal.

Thankfully for Thibaut Courtois, the Argentine forward fired the ball into row Z to save the away team from any further embarrassment.

Here’s how it went down…

All three charged towards Dzeko out wide…

Maybe someone should mark the guy in the middle, lads?

Oh, okay then. No worries…

Perotti really should have done better from here…
