Kevin De Bruyne has played down Manchester City’s chances of finishing the season unbeaten, claiming it is harder to achieve than when Arsenal’s Invincibles did it.

Pep Guardiola’s side have dropped just two points from their opening 10 games of the Premier League season and sit five points clear at the top of the table.

City’s form has been so good, many pundits are already wondering whether they can go unbeaten all season – something Arsenal did 13 years ago when they went 49 league games without losing.

But De Bruyne fears the Premier League is too competitive to repeat that feat now, with no easy games unlike when Arsenal went unbeaten across the entirety of the 2003/04 season.

He told Manchester City’s official website: ‘To go unbeaten? Well, it’s very hard.

‘I don’t think it will be possible. The level of competition is so high, in every team.

‘It’s not like, with all respect, 10 or 15 years ago where you have a couple of teams that won’t win against the top teams.

‘Now, every game is hard and you need to be mentally there.

‘And with the Champions League and all the cups, there will be a game where maybe we are a little bit less and maybe lose. But as long as our form keeps going, it’s good.’
