Michael Owen reserved praise for ‘frightening’ Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah after Wednesday’s 3-0 victory over Maribor in the Champions League.

Second-half goals from Salah, Emre Can and Daniel Sturridge gave Jurgen Klopp’s side another three points as they aim to finish the group stage top.

Egypt international Salah has made a superb start to his career at Anfield following his summer move from Roma, scoring 11 goals in 18 games in all competitions.

And Liverpool legend Owen has been impressed by Salah’s impact under German boss Klopp, saying he has ‘great movement’.

Speaking to BT Sport following Liverpool’s comfortable win, the former England striker said: ‘Salah is frightening really, he gets so many chances.

‘His goal return is really impressive, he seems to be one of them players they chances always fall to. He’s got great movement.’

Fellow former Liverpool star Sami Hyypia added: ‘He’s scored a lot of goals already, he has good quality.

‘He can continue this run. It doesn’t matter how you find the net – the goal tonight was his knee.’

Liverpool were frustrated for 50 minutes against a side they thrashed 7-0 in the reverse fixture but finally found the breakthrough for Salah and then never looked back.

‘It was very difficult [in the first-half] – they were playing very deep,’ Germany international Can said. ‘But after we got the goal we then created some space and controlled the game. We had to be patient.’
