Arsene Wenger was a very unhappy manager in the aftermath of Arsenal’s 3-1 defeat to Man City.

The Frenchman raged at the match officials, believing that two of Man City’s goals should not have been given.

But he also managed to take a swipe at television pundits as well.

Asked what the defeat said about the gulf between Arsenal and Manchester City, Wenger said: ‘They are a very good side and for the rest I leave that to the specialists.

‘You have enough on television you know. Super people who can analyse that better than I do.’

The term ‘specialists’ echoed the words of Jose Mourinho, who used the same phrase when having his own dig at ex-players who give their opinion on TV.

‘It’s better for the specialists to commentate on the game than for me to give my opinion,’ said the Manchester United manager after his side’s win over Benfica on Tuesday.

He went on: ‘I’m paid to work and to do my best, which I do every day.

‘The specialists are paid to commentate.’

Perhaps Wenger and Mourinho, famous for their feuds over the years, have more in common than they think.
