Pep Guardiola flew off the handle as Raheem Sterling wasted a golden chance before Sergio Aguero made it 2-0 to Manchester City against Arsenal.

Kevin De Bruyne opened the scoring for the home side at the Etihad as Arsene Wenger’s defence allowed the Belgian to beat Petr Cech from long-range in the 19th minute.

The Gunners looked shaky after the opener and City created a number of opportunities to go further ahead before half-time.

In the 37th minute, City broke with pace from deep and appeared certain to score as Sterling raced towards Cech’s goal with Leroy Sane to his left.

The England star, though, played a woeful ball in Sane’s direction and Guardiola was seen going ballistic in the dugout.

Sterling has scored 10 goals in 14 appearances this term which explains why Guardiola reacted so angrily at the Etihad.

Asked about Sterling ahead of the match, Guardiola said: ‘He knows a striker has to score goals and he has to do that if he wants to achieve the next step,” said boss Pep Guardiola.

‘You won’t survive in the high level teams in his position if you don’t score goals.

‘I think Raheem is enjoying scoring goals. He’s not scared, he’s not afraid to take a risk.

‘And now he’s seeing how fun, how good it is to score goals. Now he’s more focused on that.’
