Paul Pogba will not play against Newcastle United on Saturday as originally hoped, according to reports.

The Manchester United playmaker has sat out nine weeks due to injury and has been sorely missed by his side.

Pogba has been sidelined for 12 games and has seen his team’s creativity drop off significantly in his absence.

The goals from Romelu Lukaku has also dried up as United have struggled to find a new provider for their star striker.

The Telegraph claim United will not risk Pogba against Newcastle as the Manchester club continue to fret over his injury woes.

Pogba suffered a tear in his left hamstring against Basel in September and the United medical team fear Saturday’s game is too soon to throw the France international back into action.

The 24-year-old is back at United’s training base in Carrington and running regularly after spending several weeks in Miami recovering.

Pogba told his France team-mates he would be ‘back soon’ after he traveled to Cardiff to watch them beat Wales last Friday.

An eight point gap has opened up between United and Premier League leaders, Manchester City.

United have been pegged back by costly defeats to Huddersfield and most recently, Chelsea.

The visit of Newcastle represents a chance for Jose Mourinho and his side to reaffirm their title credentials, but they will most likely have to do that without Pogba.
