Joe Hart heaped praise on Joe Gomez for his assured performance in England’s 0-0 draw with Brazil.
Gareth Southgate handed Liverpool starlet Gomez his first ever call-up earlier this month and the 20-year-old made his debut as a substitute in the Three Lions’ goalless draw with Germany on Friday night.
The defender impressed against Joachim Low’s men and was rewarded with a start versus Neymar and Co. at Wembley on Wednesday evening.
‘I can’t speak highly enough of him [Gomez],’ England goalkeeper Hart told ITV Sport after the match.
‘He played against one of the hottest players in the world [Neymar] at the moment and dealt with him really well.’
Gomez claimed it was an ‘honour’ to represent his country at Wembley and is chomping at the bit for more chances in an England shirt.
He said: ‘We put in a good shift and we’re happy with that.
‘It’s a great honour, I’ll keep trying to improve and hopefully more of these days will come.’
