Arsenal are interested in signing Marouane Fellaini on a free transfer at the end of the season after the midfielder rejected Manchester United’s latest contract offer.

The Belgium international is out of contract this summer and Jose Mourinho is willing to let the midfielder’s deal run down instead of selling him in January.

The 29-year-old is happy at Old Trafford but is minded that his next deal is likely to be his last big contract in football and wants United’s offer to reflect that.

Fellaini has attracted interest from across Europe and can sign a pre-contract agreement with overseas clubs in January.

However, if Fellaini’s contract negotiations drag on onto the summer he is free to sign for a Premier League rival and Arsenal are interested in getting him, according to the Daily Express.

Fellaini had made a bright start to the season before succumbing to a knee injury in early October but he could return to United’s starting line-up for their clash against Newcastle United on Saturday.

United hope to be able to welcome Paul Pogba back after a three month injury lay-off but they’re unlikely to take any risks if the Frenchman is not fully fit.

Should Fellaini fail to sign a new deal before January United could reassess their stance on his future and may sell him to raise some cash for incomings.
