Manchester United reportedly held talks with Celtic striker Moussa Dembele last summer over a switch to Old Trafford.

The striker has been brilliant for Celtic in his two seasons at the club and already has seven goals from 14 appearances this campaign.

Dembele has been linked with almost every big Premier League club in recent years with Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham all credited with an interest in the youngster.

The 21-year-old opted to join Celtic from Fulham in 2016 rather than move to the English top flight and has bagged 39 goals in 63 games for the Hoops.

Dembele scored Celtic’s only goal in the 7-1 thrashing against Barcelona on Wednesday night and his consistency has caught the attention of United.

L’Equipe claim the talks between Dembele and United took place last summer, but the attacker decided he wanted to stay at Celtic.

Brendan Rodgers did well to hang onto Dembele, but Celtic and their manager are resigned to eventually losing their star striker.

United’s interest could be reignited in the coming summer window and Dembele’s team said this week he would only leave the Hoops for an elite team.

Everton and West Ham held talks with Dembele last summer as well, but it seems that the goalscorer will only join a top six Premier League side.

Celtic are set to make an incredible profit on Dembele, having only paid a compensation fee of £500,000 to Fulham in 2016.

Jose Mourinho already has a host of promising young strikers at United with Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku all under the age of 24.
