Pep Guardiola took a swipe at Arsene Wenger after Raheem Sterling broke his personal scoring record against Huddersfield.

Sterling won a penalty and then scored the winner against Huddersfield after Manchester City had initially fallen behind due to an own goal from Nicolas Otamendi.

Wenger clashed with Sterling and Guardiola earlier this month when the Arsenal boss said the winger ‘dives well’.

The Arsenal manager was referring to the manner in which Sterling won a spot-kick for City in their 3-1 against the Gunners.

The away win at Huddersfield saw Sterling have a clear-cut penalty turned down moments before Scott Malone dragged him down in the area.

Guardiola was asked if he thought the penalty decision was the correct one and the City boss opted to aim a small dig at his rival manager.

He said: ‘Two clear penalties. Maybe Arsene will say that is [a] penalty.’

City are breaking all sorts of records this season and Sterling has now surpassed his best ever scoring tally, just 13 games into the Premier League season.

The result leaves City unchallenged at the top of the table and eight points clear of Manchester United.

Guardiola is on track to win the league title in his second season as boss and the City manager was in jubilant form after the comeback victory.

‘The Premier League is so tough, now winter has come, we knew they were so aggressive so strong, but we are so happy for the way we won,’ said Guardiola.

‘We spoke at half-time about how to react, we had enough chances to score and the first time Huddersfield had a chance they scored.

‘We spoke about not giving up, to keep going. It was a brilliant move to win the penalty.

‘It is impossible to win every game easily, this league is so tough. The guys competed amazingly, which is why we won.’
