Arsene Wenger has admitted he has been disappointed by the lack of ruthlessness displayed by his new-look strikeforce this season.

Although Alexandre Lacazette has made an encouraging start to his Arsenal career following his £52million move from Lyon, the France international has scored just twice in his last seven matches and has been substituted on nine occasions this season.

Alexis Sanchez has scored just three times in the Premier League, although he has been on the scoresheet in his side’s two most recent matches, while Ozil has scored just once all season.

Lacazette, Ozil and Sanchez have started together on only three occasions this term. The trio played a key role in the recent north London derby win but were broken up again at Turf Moor on Sunday due to the German’s illness.

Wenger hopes to be able to recall the 29-year-old for the visit of Huddersfield on Wednesday but with Danny Welbeck now back from injury and Olivier Giroud also in contention, Wenger has warned his star men that competition for places intense.

‘Improvement is always possible, that’s what we want to focus on,’ said Wenger. ‘Keep the good things we have done recently, but improve.

‘We have improved our defensive record recently but we know going forward we can do better, we can be more prolific.

‘We do not take enough of our chances and we want to create more as well. So there is still room for improvement.’
