Antonio Rudiger was in need of a new pair of boots and a plaster following Chelsea’s 1-0 victory over Swansea City on Wednesday evening.

The 24-year-old defender scored in the second half to secure three points for the Premier League champions at Stamford Bridge.

But after the match, Rudiger revealed that his boot had torn during the match, and the challenge had left him with a nasty cut on his left foot.

The Germany international had replaced Cesar Azpilicueta in Antonio Conte’s starting line-up, with the Spaniard being given a rest ahead of Chelsea’s congested festive schedule.

Chelsea laboured in their latest victory in the Premier League but Conte praised his players for showing patience against a stubborn Swansea side.

‘This type of game, you are able to score early, otherwise you must have a lot of patience to try the best way to score. At the same time, you must pay attention for the counter attack,’ said Conte.

‘This type of game, the desire to win, you have a lot of desire to win.

‘Then you want to try to attack with all the players and sometimes you lose your balance.

‘My players never lost their balance, they played an intelligent game, good win. We must be very good also to win this type of game.’
