Arsene Wenger admits he was surprised by the speed of Alexandre Lacazette’s recovery for Arsenal’s clash with Manchester United on Saturday evening.

The France international suffered a groin injury in the 5-0 win over Huddersfield Town on Tuesday and Wenger claimed after the victory that the striker would ‘definitely’ miss the fixture against Jose Mourinho’s side.

Lacazette was not pictured in training on Friday but Wenger claims the 26-year-old came through the session without aggravating his injury.

‘He will play because he recovered quite surprisingly,’ the Arsenal manager told BT Sport.

‘We ruled him out but he had a scan that was positive, he practised yesterday and he felt alright.’
