Jose Mourinho believes that Sergio Romero is the most important goalkeeper at Manchester United in the lead-up to the side’s Champions League clash with CSKA Moscow.
David De Gea gave the goalkeeping performance of the Premier League season in United’s 3-1 victory at Arsenal on Saturday, but will not feature at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening.
Joel Pereira will sit on the bench for the Group A encounter and Mourinho has thrown his support behind De Gea’s understudies.
Asked whether he has worked with or faced a better ‘keeper than De Gea, Mourinho responded: ‘My goalkeeper is always the best goalkeeper in the world. So now David is the third best.
‘Sergio Romero is number one and Joel [Pereira] number two, and David is the third best.’
Asked about his display at the Emirates, De Gea told MUTV: ‘Sometimes, you just start a game with a really good save, with a good feeling, you feel that [unbeatable],
‘But we started the game really well, we scored two important goals and it’s true that we lost a bit of a control of the game after.
‘But it was a good performance.’
