Rennes starlet James Lea Siliki has lifted the lid on his ‘obsession’ with Manchester United while growing up during Sir Alex Ferguson’s tenure at Old Trafford.
The 21-year-old striker is being tipped for big things after making his first-team debut in Rennes’ 1-1 draw with Nantes at the Roazhon Park towards the end of the 2016/17 campaign.
Lea Siliki, an ex-France Under-19 international, ‘dreamt’ of Old Trafford as a child and revealed his expansive knowledge of former Red Devils stars.
Speaking to Ouest France, the young forward said: ‘When I was younger, in my room, I dreamt of big games.
‘I’m a professional footballer, it’s an obsession ever since I could understand. I dreamt of Manchester United, of their stadium, of their colours.
‘I grew up with the Ferguson years, the Boxing Day games on Canal+, the 95th minute wins.’
Lea Siliki listed the United legends who stand out in his memory from his time supporting the club.
‘I grew up with the Yorke-Cole partnership,’ he explained.
‘Mikael Silvestre, Louis Saha, Wayne Rooney, Ronaldo… Ryan Giggs was a monument until the very end.’
