Paul Pogba has told Jose Mourinho it is imperative that Manchester United go on the attack in Sunday’s derby against Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s Premier League pacesetters currently enjoy an eight point lead at the top of the table on the back of a record equaling 13-game winning run, ahead of their trip to Old Trafford this weekend.

City’s task has been made somewhat easier by the suspension Pogba incurred following his sending-off against Arsenal last weekend for a dangerous tackle on Hector Bellerin.

Mourinho has been accused of employing negative and defensive tactics against the best teams in the league, and although his attacking options will be restricted in light of Pogba’s absence, the France international believes the key to inflicting a first defeat on City this season is to target their rearguard.

‘We need to,” he told reporters when asked if United would attack their rivals.

‘To win those games you need to give everything. You need to be there offensively, defensively.

‘Kill the game when you have one chance because they are City and they have quality as well in front and they can kill the game at any time.

‘They are first for good reason because they have been doing great at the start of the season.

‘They keep winning and they didn’t lose one game and obviously mentally they are very strong.’
