Mauricio Pochettino attempted to clear up an on-field altercation he had with Danny Rose during Tottenham’s 3-0 victory over Apoel Nicosia.

Fernando Llorente, Son Heung-min and Georges-Kevin N’Koudou were Spurs’ scorers at Wembley on Wednesday night, but much of the talk after the win surrounded Rose’s substitution in the 70th minute.

Rose required stitches to a cut on his head and the left-back made his frustrations known to Pochettino after being informed that Kyle Walker-Peters was set to replace him.

Clearly unhappy, Rose was seen storming down the tunnel after the row and Pochettino was forced to explain their heated discussion in the aftermath of Spurs’ win.

‘Players are never happy when they are going out. He was with a big cut here [points to head] and the doctors said he needed stitches,’ he told BT Sport.

‘It was impossible to play and, of course, players are frustrated because it’s a possibility to play Champions League and show you’re playing football.

‘But it was an accident but there’s nothing wrong.’

Reports suggest Manchester United are confident of completing a £50million move for Rose in January after the defender questioned Tottenham’s wage structure in the summer.

‘As with everyone else in my team, in my opinion, I am worth more than I am getting,’ Rose told The Sun,

‘In any walk of life, if you think you are worth a certain amount, why settle for less? I am not that person.

‘If I get to levels I reached last season — and this goes out to everybody — I will make sure I get what I am worth.

‘My short-term focus is to get back to playing like last year and if I do that the long-term will take care of itself.

‘I’m not saying I want out, but if something came to me that was concrete, I’d have no qualms about voicing my opinions to anyone at the club.’
