Manchester United have made contact with transfer target Eliot Matazo via the family of their own star striker Romelu Lukaku, according to reports.

Scouts in Belgium have are said to have alerted United to the talented midfielder who is being monitored by a number of leading European clubs.

Dutch outlet Voetbalkrant claim the Premier League giants have been in touch with the 15-year-old thanks to the relationship Lukaku’s family maintains with Anderlecht, where Matazo is captain of the Under-16 side.

Lukaku began his career with Anderlecht before moving to Chelsea, where he first linked up with Jose Mourinho, in a £20million deal six years ago.

The likes of Borussia Dortmund, Schalke, RB Leipzig and Manchester City are also reported to have shown an interest in Matazo who turns 16 in February, at which point United hope to secure his services.

While Mourinho is reported to have been granted an £80million budget in January with an eye to hauling in Premier League leaders City, United are continuing their attempts to bolster their academy with some of Europe’s finest young talent.

Last week the club confirmed the signing of France Under-17 international Aliou Traore from Paris Saint-Germain, while they are closing in on the services of Malmo wonderkid Lucas Gomes.

Asked about the teenage attacker, Malmo director Brandrup told Skanesport: ‘Lucas was in Manchester for week 44 and unfortunately I do not think we’ll keep him.

‘He moved here from Karlskrona in the autumn of 2016 to go to our sports school and, of course, he might have to wait until he left the school before moving back.

‘But I understand he’s impressed with United.’
