Arsene Wenger admitted he wasn’t totally satisfied with Alexis Sanchez’s performance against Southampton.

The Chilean provided the assist for Olivier Giroud who scored a late equaliser for the Gunners.

The visiting side to St Mary’s were behind after an early goal from Southampton striker Charlie Austin.

While playing a role in the equaliser, Sanchez was just as culpable as his team-mates for most of the match of struggling to break down Southampton’s defence.

Wenger said Sanchez played too deep in the first half before improving in the second.

‘I think in these second half today, yes I was happy with his performance,’ Wenger said in his post-match press conference.

‘In the first half I felt he played a little bit too deep, we need him higher up the pitch.’
