Henrikh Mkhitaryan will demand showdown talks with Jose Mourinho after being axed from the Manchester United squad to face Manchester City on Sunday, reports claim.

The 28-year-old Armenian has five assists and one Premier League goal to his name after a bright start to the season but has not featured for the Red Devils since coming off the bench in a 1-0 win against Brighton towards the end of November.

He hasn’t started a league clash since United’s 1-0 defeat to Chelsea at the start of that month and hasn’t completed 90 minutes in all competitions since midway through October.

Mourinho criticised his lack of work rate in matches and the former Borussia Dortmund man was left out of the 18-man squad to face Pep Guardiola’s side.

He will now push for crunch talks with Mourinho to shed light on his future at Old Trafford, according to the Daily Star.

Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Romelu Lukaku all start against City in what’s an attacking line-up for the Red Devils, but only have Juan Mata and Zlatan Ibrahimovic as offensive options coming from the bench.

And Mkhitaryan is understandably frustrated to not get a chance in such a big game.
