Manchester United have been drawn against Sevilla in the Champions League Round of 16 and Michael Owen thinks they should be delighted.

The Red Devils could have faced one of Europe’s big-hitters, but instead will face a side currently second in the Swiss Super League.

Former Manchester United striker Owen said he fully expects his old club to advance.

‘I think tactically he [Jose Mourinho] is one to know how to get through. I think this is a really good draw,’ he told BT Sport.

‘I’m convinced Sevilla are half the team they were a few years ago. Liverpool dominated both ties [in this season’s group phase] but somehow didn’t win. It’ a great draw.

‘I don’t think Mourinho will even have to be on top of his game to get through. I expect them [Manchester United] to go through.’

Former Tottenham player Jermain Jenas echoed Owen, noting that Sevilla do not look as strong as the side that won the Europa League three years in a row from 2014-2016.

‘Sevilla have got very good European pedigree. But having watched them this year this isn’t the strongest side.

‘Man Utd will relish playing against them. Over two-legged games, you’re a strong man to go against [backing] Mourinho. He’s done it over a number of years.’
