Jose Mourinho has cryptically suggested that Manchester City lacked class in the post-match celebrations that prompted a mass brawl after Sunday’s game at Old Trafford.

It has been alleged that Mourinho walked into the visitor’s dressing room, which was blaring loud music, and told them to show more respect, with the altercation piling out into the tunnel as players and staff from both clubs clashed.

It left Mikel Arteta with a nasty cut on his head, while Mourinho was believed to have been covered in milk as bottles were thrown between the two sides.

But with both clubs having submitted their version of events to the Football Association, neither Pep Guardiola nor Mourinho wanted to comment too much on what transpired in the tunnel.

Several questions about the incident were shut down by Mourinho, who said he only wanted to talk about the Bournemouth match on Wednesday night.

But he did finally comment when Guardiola’s own press conference quotes were put to him, in which the Catalan insisted his team had not celebrated overzealously.

‘He says, he says. I’m not here to comment his words,’ said Mourinho.

‘The only thing I can say is that for me it was just a question of diversity. Diversity in behaviour, diversity in education, just that and nothing more than that.’

The two clubs had until Wednesday to submit their version of events to the FA, with numerous reports coming out about the confrontation afterwards.

It has been claimed that a bare-chested Marcos Rojo led the United players to the away dressing room to confront City, that Romelu Lukaku threw a bottle, and that City’s staff insulted Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
