Some Manchester United players wonder if the huge brawl that erupted following their match with Man City may have been deliberately started by Jose Mourinho, according to reports.

The two sides became embroiled in a confrontation outside the dressing rooms at Old Trafford following Man City’s 2-1 win.

Widespread reports suggest the altercation began when Mourinho entered the visitors’ dressing room to complain about their overzealous celebrations.

He and Man City goalkeeper Ederson are said to have then entered into an argument before chaos ensued, with reports of milk, bottles and punches being thrown.

The Daily Mail, who first reported the story, claim that some Manchester United players wonder if Mourinho instigated the row in an attempt to galvanise his side.

The motivation to do so is understandable after his side feel 11 points behind Man City after the defeat.

It’s also claimed that senior players are regretful that team-mates became involved in a brawl, believing it would have been better to store up their frustration and anger for when the teams next meet.

They are due to do so at the Etihad in April.
