Arsenal have made dreadful starts to their last two Premier League matches so it was at least encouraging to see Laurent Koscielny attempt to set the tone ahead of Wednesday’s London derby against West Ham.
Two basic errors allowed Manchester United to take an early two-goal lead at the Emirates a fortnight ago and some equally generous defending saw Charlie Austin open the scoring after just two minutes during the 1-1 draw at Southampton last weekend.
Arsene Wenger had been critical of his team for making consecutive slow starts while goalkeeper Petr Cech was scathing of his teammates for failing to be switched on at St Mary’s.
Wearing the armband in the absence of Per Mertesacker, who was dropped after his error-strewn performance on Sunday, Koscielny attempted to gee up his troops with a rousing pre-match team talk.
Unfortunately for the experienced Frenchman, he appeared to be totally ignored by his colleagues who continued with their warm-up exercises and opted, in the main, to stare at the floor or, in Alex Iwobi’s case, walk off in the opposite direction.
The silence was somewhat awkwardly broken by Olivier Giroud clapping his hands and crying ‘yes, yes, yes’. Inspiring stuff!
Arsenal opted to post the clip of Koscielny’s rallying cry but it didn’t escape the attention of most Gooners that he was almost totally blanked…
“Kos, I’m going to go round in circles so pretend you’re giving a team talk to get the fans off our backs”

Gallas showed more passion in the huddle. Pathetic by this account to highlight this, that’s why we’ve become a laughing stock.
