Jose Mourinho and Henrikh Mkhitaryan were involved in a heated training ground bust-up following a video analysis session, according to ESPN.

The Armenia international struggled in his first season at Old Trafford but appeared to win his manager’s confidence following an superb run of form at the start of current campaign, scoring twice and providing six assists during August and September.

Mkhitaryan’s performances have nosedived ever since, however, and he hasn’t featured in seven of the last eight matchday squads, with Mourinho understood to be particularly disappointed with his contributions against Liverpool and Chelsea away from home.

Reports earlier on Friday claimed the former Borussia Dortmund playmaker believes Mourinho’s defensive tactics were to blame for his dwindling contributions, and ESPN report that the pair rowed at the club’s Carrington training complex after Mkhitaryan had been singled out for criticism in front of the rest of the first team squad.

The disagreement is said to have continued into the corridors outside an analysis suite with Mourinho understood to have been angered by Mkhitaryan failing to track back during a substitute appearance against Brighton last month.

Mkhitaryan’s poor form has led to Mourinho’s interest in Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil.

The German played under Mourinho at Real Madrid and is believed to be open to moving to Old Trafford.

Arsene Wenger, though, insists the Red Devils are yet to make an approach for the 29-year-old.

Mkhitaryran, meanwhile, is reportedly the subject of serious interest from Inter Milan, whose Portuguese midfielder Joao Mario is among one of Mourinho’s top January targets.
