Jose Mourinho is ready to take advantage of Borussia Dortmund’s interest in Henrikh Mkhitaryan in order to push through a deal for Julian Weigl, reports claim.

The Manchester United boss is set to offload the attacking midfielder in January, who has slipped down the pecking order.

After a bright start to the season that saw him contribute five assists and a goal in 10 Premier League starts, the Armenian’s form dipped and he hasn’t featured in a Manchester United shirt since a 1-0 win over Brighton on November 25.

Mkhitaryan’s former club Dortmund are keen to sign him, although they face competition from Inter Milan.

However, Mourinho is keen to sell him to the Bundesliga giants at the right price in order to manoeuvre a move for Weigl, according to the Independent.

Mourinho is keen to add another defensive midfielder to his side and retains a long-term interest in the 22-year-old.

While a swap deal may not be on the cards, Mourinho hopes that selling Mkhitaryan to the German outfit would allow him to earn good will over a summer move for Weigl as he looks to build a squad capable of matching Manchester City.
