Wayne Rooney is out of Everton’s clash with Chelsea on Saturday.

The 32-year-old, who has already scored 10 Premier League goals this season, has failed to make Everton’s matchday squad for the early kick-off at Goodison Park.

Rooney misses the match due to illness and it is not yet known whether the former Manchester United captain will be available for Everton’s trip to West Brom on Boxing Day.

‘He’s unwell, he’s got the cold that runs around in this weather at this time of the year,’ Sam Allardyce told Sky Sports.

‘He felt unwell with a head cold yesterday, spoke to the doctor this morning and rang to say he wasn’t available.

‘Hopefully he’s okay by Boxing Day.’

Before the game, Antonio Conte warned his Chelsea players about the threat Rooney possesses.

‘We must pay great attention because I think Wayne Rooney is a player who, when he plays, plays with his soul,’ said the Chelsea manager.

‘You can see this during the game.’

Elsewhere for Everton, Yannick Bolasie has made the matchday squad for the first time in over a year after recovering from a cruciate ligament injury.
