Arsene Wenger admits he played Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez too early after Copa America exploits

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted he may have rushed superstar Alexis Sanchez back before he was really ready for the Premier League season.

Sanchez had a brilliant debut season in England last term and also spearheaded his country Chile to Copa America glory in the summer, but his performances have faded so far this campaign.

The 26-year-old is yet to find the net for the Gunners in all competitions and has looked jaded at times, but Wenger, while recognising the Chilean needs time, is convinced he can recover his form.

"I think I played him very early before he was completely fit, physically, that is one explanation," said Wenger.

"The second is that every player who has won a big trophy with the national team takes some while to settle and come back to his best. These are the two main explanations for me.

"Physically he is not completely ready, coming out of a big achievement and that takes time.

"I don't worry for Alexis Sanchez. Even when he doesn't score he is still a major threat for everybody and I am confident he will score very soon."
