Arsene Wenger believes Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud justified his decision not to buy a striker in the transfer market

Arsene Wenger hails Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud after Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Stoke City

Arsene Wenger believes Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud justified his decision not to buy a striker in the transfer market in Arsenal’s 2-0 win against Stoke City.

The pair were both on target as the Gunners produced a confident performance to claim their first home win of the season.

Wenger was pleased with Arsenal’s attacking display against the Potters and praised his side’s response since their opening-day defeat to West Ham.

“I’m satisfied with our attitude and improvement since the start of the season,” said Wenger.

“We are a bit short of two or three points but overall we have shown again today we have the potential and if we can repeat the quality we had in our game today we will be there.

“I’m pleased with the movement of Walcott, the goal he scored was absolutely outstanding and it’s good that Giroud scored a goal as well.

“Strikers always say it’s not important if they don’t score but they don’t tell you the truth when they say that.

“At some stage you have to stand behind your players, they have justified that today and I’m convinced they will do that in the future.”
