Arsene Wenger says loaned out forward Joel Campbell still has an Arsenal future

Arsene Wenger has told Joel Campbell he still has a future at Arsenal.

The forward joined Sporting Lisbon on loan last week and it had been reported he may join the Portuguese club permanently next summer.

But, Wenger insists Campbell does still have a future at Arsenal and he only left due to the high competition for places.

"I believe that he's a bit of a victim of the size of the squad," said Wenger.

"He is now at an age where he needs to play more regularly and I don't rule out that he comes back here and plays.

"He has gone to Sporting Lisbon and I think it's an interesting championship. Portugal always has an interesting championship and let's see how it goes for him."

Another player who may leave on loan is Calum Chambers but - like with Campbell - Wenger says any departure will not effect his long-term place at the club.

"Will it effect his future? No. The fact that he could go out somewhere and play? Yes," said Wenger.
