‘It was not my choice’ – Jose Mourinho admits he knows little about Chelsea summer signing Papiss Djilobodji

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho did not choose to sign Papiss Djilobodji - he was selected by a scout he has total faith in.

The centre-back was brought in from Nantes on transfer deadline day when repeated efforts to bring in John Stones from Everton failed.

His arrival came as a surprise and Mourinho admits he has seen little of the 26-year-old, who has not been included in the club's Champions League squad.

"It was not my choice, it was the choice of someone I trust completely, which is the same," Mourinho said.

"I don't know every player, my job does not allow me to travel and spend hours watching players so in certain circumstance you have to trust the people you work with.

"In my case I trust because the same person who told me Djilobodji could be a good squad player for us was the same person who told me Kurt Zouma would be a fantastic player for us."
