Mourinho confirms Chelsea are in contract talks with Hazard

Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Chelsea are in negotiations over a new contract for Eden Hazard.

The Belgian has been one of the Blues top performers since moving to Stamford Bridge in 2012, scoring 14 league goals last season and being named the PFA Young Player of the Year.

The 23-year-old linked was linked with a move to Real Madrid in the summer, but Mourinho has confirmed Chelsea have no plans to sell Hazard and are working on tying him down to a long-term contract.

"Eden Hazard means a lot to us because he's a fantastic player, we have big hopes he will become one of the best," said Mourinho, speaking on the eve of the Champions League Group G opener with Schalke.

"It's true that Chelsea is trying to have an agreement for a longer contract. He wants to stay for more years.

"As a kid he was always living on his natural talent, which was amazing, but now he has a tactical and mental education too.

"His talent allows him to think about going from a top player to become one of the greats of his generation.

"We are very proud that he thinks Chelsea is the perfect environment for him to have that evolution.

"That's why he wants to commit to us and we want to commit to him for the future too.

"It will be a question of time, but it will end with a new contract."
