Divock Origi has been linked with a move to England

Transfer latest: The Belgian youngster Liverpool and Arsenal could fight over

Liverpool are currently on course to end their 24-year wait for another league title, but that hasn’t stopped Kop boss Brendan Rodgers from looking ahead to the summer with an eye on strengthening his side further. Another forward is on the shopping list and talkSPORT's Transfer Spotlight looks closely at Divock Origi...

Name: Divock Origi
Date of birth: 18 April, 1995
Birthplace: Ostend, Belgium
Club: Lille
Position: Forward
International: One Belgium U21 cap

What’s the latest?
According to reports, one of the names Rodgers is looking at is Lille’s young forward Divock Origi, but he is likely to find competition from Arsenal for the Belgian’s signature, with the Gunners in need of additonal forwards. The 18-year-old is thought to have caught the eye of the Premier League duo with some strong performances this season, resulting in Origi having scored a respectable five goals for Lille, despite largely being used as a substitute. At such a tender age, he has all the raw attributes to develop into a good striker, which is possibly why both Liverpool and Arsenal are keeping an eye on him.

The nitty gritty
1.
Origi is the son of former Kenyan international Mike Origi, who made his name playing for a variety of Belgian sides including Racing Genk - where Divock started his career - throughout the 1990s and early 2000s.

2. While his football education began at Genk, it has been at Lille where Origi has progressed. He transferred between the two clubs in 2010, and quickly rose through the Lille ranks.

3. Origi initially started out as a defensive midfielder, but was developed into a forward after showing a penchant for scoring goals. Indeed, his talent in Lille’s youth ranks saw him fast-tracked to the U19s at the age of 16, making him one of the youngest players in the side.

4. Origi was promoted to Lille’s B team shortly afterwards, but his stay was only brief and he was promptly promoted to the first team. After scoring on his debut for the seniors in February 2013 against Troyes, he maintained a place in the squad and has added to that this season, scoring five times for Les Dogues.

5. He has played for Belgium at every age group from Under-15 onwards and recently made his bow for the Red Devils’ U21s. He is tipped to become a senior international in the future, although he is eligible to play for Kenya through his father.

What is being said?
He says
:
“I am comfortable in both positions. I trained to play on the side or in the center. I have no problem with that.”
– Origi commenting on his flexibility in playing as a midfielder or forward.
