Wenger confident Coquelin will sign new Arsenal deal

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is confident Francis Coquelin will sign a new deal with the club.

Coquelin has returned from his loan spell at Charlton and established himself as a first-team regular, earning plaudits for his performance in the 2-0 victory over Manchester City last Sunday.

The defensive midfielder's current contract expires at the end of the season and Wenger has now revealed that the Gunners are looking to tie the 23-year-old down.

"We have offered him a new deal. I am confident that it will be done," said Wenger.

"He is a very young player. You look just at what happens on the pitch. He wins the ball and makes a good pass. In his position that is important.

"I saw that he made huge improvements in training and I explained to him that for me to give him a potential chance, he needed match practice.

"I could not give him that, I could give him that only if he had played somewhere else before. He took the challenge, he came back and since I have played him he is doing well."
