Richarlison: Watford sign Brazil Under-20 forward on five-year deal

Watford have confirmed the signing of Brazil Under-20 international Richarlison after he was granted a work permit.

The 20-year-old forward has joined on a five-year contract from Fluminense for about £11m.

Richarlison was signed by Brazilian top division side Fluminense from second-tier side America Mineiro in 2016.

He made 67 appearances for Fluminense and scored 19 goals, while he has two goals in eight Brazil U20 outings.

Watford start their Premier League campaign at home against Liverpool on Saturday in a 12:30 BST kick-off.

    Just not true Sandy @6 - He will play at Watford rather than sit in the reserves like Kenedy at Chelsea. If he does good he earns his big transfer away in a year or two. Watford are well financed, making a profit and keeping well within the FFP rules unlike others. They are a growing club run by professionals who know what they are doing.

    @Bush 12 Watford have an excellent academy with nearly 60 players having made their 1st team debut to date including 4 last year.

    'When was the last time Watford fans got to sing "He's one of our own"?'

    At home to city when Brandon Mason played at left back, last game of the season. Or, 'the most recent possible occasion'. Not as good a story though for those who have Paul Merson's blinkers and Harry Redknapp's research ability.

    Love how everyone writes Watford off year in year out. Yet here we are again. I'm sure it wont be easy, but I think the appointment of Silva, alongside the decent signings we should be safe.

    And hopefully we can hold on to a manager for longer than a week and start to make some progression into becoming an established Premier League side.

    There are definitely some worse teams than us.

    I just saw someone who said our youth policy is non-existent? 5 academy prospects made their debuts for the first team last year. Whether that was down to injuries or choice, that's not a non-existent youth policy. Watford seem to be the club that no one cares about but given our stature we've achieved more than most clubs around us in the table. This signing just shows our ambition to succeed.

    For a young player he has pretty good statistics and in today’s market £11m for a 20 year old Brazilian striker is pocket change for Premier League squads.

    From a neutral perspective, I hope he does well and is entertaining to watch!

    Why the negative comments ? Watford have also signed Chalobah and Hughes. They aren't responsible for the demolition of football we have witnessed this Summer. As an Englishman, I will only support a club that promotes English talent. I am deeply worried about current developments in the game. The spending cannot be sustainable. What happens when people stop paying Sky ? I wish Watford well.

    Watford fans don't mind where the player comes from, they will empathise with anyone who cares about the team and puts a shift in.

    Surprised he got a work permit at such a young age. Big gamble to see if he can adjust to the lifestyle and the weather but what is £11million in this day and age? Probably worth a punt

    Seems like there are a lot of people here with nothing better to do than complain - since when did it stop being okay to sign a player? You can have more than just youth academy products in a team.

    Anyway...

    Heard a lot of good about him, but never seen him in action, hopefully a good signing for them.

    Nice to see a player go somewhere he'll get action rather than just rot on the bench.

    Perhaps if you had a clue you would know that at least 6 of the current U23 squad played in the first team in EFL and FaCup last season with 5 playing for the first team at the back end of it, not bad for a team that allegedly doesn't have one

    a good signing by watford. young but he wont need time as after starting 14 of fluminenses 18 games , he should be as fit as a fiddle compared to the majority of the players trying to shake off their rust. instead of insulting him and watford , use your loaf and stick him in your dream teams.

    Watford are certainly not a "rubbish foreign Club". Yes they are Italian owned, but so are most of the premier clubs. Why is it ok for Arsenal and Chelsea to ride on the backs of masses of foreign imports and not anyone else? And the success of their academy in developing players has already been detailed in previous comments. In Italy they took on the big boys successfully. The Premier?
