Gabriel leaves Arsenal for Valencia
Gabriel helped the Gunners beat Manchester City in April's FA Cup semi-final win

Arsenal defender Gabriel Paulista has joined Spanish club Valencia for an undisclosed fee.

The Brazilian centre-back made a total of 64 appearances for the Gunners after joining from Villarreal for about £11m in January 2015.

The 26-year-old helped Arsene Wenger's side win the FA Cup in 2015 and 2017.

"We would like to thank Gabriel for his contribution to the club and to wish him well for his return to La Liga with Valencia," Arsenal said.

The La Liga club, who finished 12th in the Spanish top flight last season, said Gabriel has signed a five-year contract until 2022.

    Sounds like Arsenal got most of their money back on this one, and if there is future business on the centre-half purchasing front then this seems about right. He was OK but nothing spectacular, and Arsenal, like virtually every team in the league currently need better players in that position.

    He did a job for Arsenal and should be thanked for that. He would probably have struggled to get much game time going forwards so no bad thing to let him go back to Spain.

    Am I missing something, it does this make Arsenal incredibly light on CBs? Koscielny, Mertasacker, Holding, Mustafi.
    That's not much cover when you play 3 at the back.

    A good defender who couldn't get a run of games with Arsenal and played out of position most of the time. May be La Liga tempo will suit him better and thanks for the memories.

    Communication is key for CBs and apparently his grasp of English was very poor. Played with passion for Arsenal so wish him all the best for the future.

    @6 and @19 .. no that's two down because you're forgetting Szcesny who we also sold to Juve for £10 mill , so that's about £20 mill now recouped. Most of the other players you mention have had offers and the fee more or less agreed. The stumbling block has been the refusal of the player to take a wage cut. Sad that they would rather sit in the reserves than play regularly .

    It is in some way a shame. I thought he had potential to be good. Maybe struggled due to whole club struggling at large parts of last season. Hope Wenger can bring in a strong CB with the money they have earned from this sell.

    Time to give little Spuds Hurricane a history lesson. Spurs haven't won anything of note since 1991. No league title since 1961. Since then Ipswich, Derby, Forest, Blackburn, Leicester amongst others have been more successful. Fans of all teams laugh at Spurs for very good reasons. They can't win a trophy of any note and haven't for over a quarter of a century. Spurs a joke that keeps giving. Ha

    And even though things are that bad for Arsenal- they are still far more successful than Spurs Glenda. Why is that? And why do Spurs fail to win any trophies? You can't answer these questions lad - you're like a lost puppy hahaha!
