Vincent Janssen: Tottenham striker joins Fenerbahce on loan

Tottenham striker Vincent Janssen has joined Turkish club Fenerbahce on a season-long loan deal.

The 23-year-old joined Spurs for £17m from AZ Alkmaar in July 2016 but only managed six goals in 38 appearances during his first season.

The Netherlands international had moved further away from first-team selection after the arrival of Fernando Llorente from Swansea this summer.

Fenerbahce are also interested in a loan deal for Chelsea's Diego Costa.

On Thursday, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino said that Janssen still had a future at the north London side despite his exclusion from their Champions League squad.

"That is about numbers," said the Argentine manager, when asked about the Dutchman's omission.

"We only have 17 places. We are 19, so we left out both Vincent and [Argentina midfielder] Erik Lamela.

"In January we check again to see if we change the names in the squad. But, yes, he has a future like other players here."

People are far too quick to judge him. he has a good touch and great vision what he lacks is confidence and hopefully this move will help him build that up a bit. I hope he is a success there in Turkey.

Is Llorente better than Janssen? I'll go out on a limb here and suggest that a World Cup winner who also scored 15 goals for a poor Swansea last season is considerably better.

I'm gutted, for him and for us.

(a) If we are to compete in 4 competitions then we need a range of strikers. To be left with 2 out and out strikers is madness. Take a look at how many the other big teams have.

(b) Many players need a year to adjust to the PL, especially if given as little time as VJ.

Could still do well at Spurs. Never repeated his form from Holland but you have to question whether he was ever given a proper run in the side, instead making brief substitute appearances or the odd cup game. That's the nature of the game but you're highly unlikely to ever see the best of a forward who isn't sharpe.

Sad to see Vinny go but also happy he is going to play more regular first team football. I appreciated his work ethic, even though it was through spasmodic game time. For that he won over many fans hearts. If the so called super stars put in even half of the effort he did (which many don't), then they can feel smug they deserve to picked week in, week out and paid super high wages. Good luck Vinny

Declining? So at least you admit he's been at the top, and rightly so, two players you mentioned don't have a goldenboot and are never likely too. Even Aguero who has been in the PL throughout his peak, still only has one. So, one goldenboot between all 3 of your stand out examples, compared to Kanes 2 at age 23. The only thing here that stands out is a bungling attempt at trolling.

No he isn't - I saw him play live for AZ against Feyenoord before the move to spurs and he was a goal machine.

The trouble is he just played second fiddle to Harry Kane - most players would struggle for form in that circumstance

He didn't turn down Brighton! Premier League rules state that no club can have more than two players on loan at any one time. Brighton had already reached that quota with Tim Krul (Newcastle) and Isaiah Brown (Chelsea).

I take your point though that a loan to another Premier League club would have been far more beneficial, assuming he would have got good game time.

Would rather have him go on loan to a PL team to see if he can hack it here. He could do well over there in Turkey but still be no nearer to proving himself in this league.

Hope he at least finds some form for his own sake, if not ours.

Janssen is a fool for turning down a loan move to Brighton- it would of game him a real opportunity to play regularly and prove his worth in the premiership

What an odd choice of story to open for comment. We have the story of Ali behaving as though he is playing on Hackney Marshes with a hangover and instead we are asked to post views on Tottenham's third choice striker going out on loan. I promise you if Ali was foreign he would have been destroyed all this week in the press.
