Jose Mourinho on the touchline at St Mary's — Manchester United have won their past four games and are second in the Premier League

Jose Mourinho will face no further action over his dismissal at Southampton on Saturday.

The Manchester United manager was sent off by referee Craig Pawson for stepping onto the pitch in stoppage time during their 1-0 win at St Mary's.

After receiving the referee's report, the FA decided no additional action was necessary.

Mourinho received two one-match bans from the FA for separate incidents last season.

One foot outside the technical area seems to generate an automatic HYS. Two independent enquiries & a subsequent dismissal for Sampson, however...

totally agree with 15. Moeen Ali yesterday and Mourinho today- no controversy at all. I want Mark Sampson and the FA cover up. I want to know exactly what the "inappropriate " behaviour was , when the FA knew and if the behaviour really justified the sacking or did the FA cave in to Guardian/pcmedia pressure. Pusillanimous BBC .

It's a dumbing down thing I guess, instead of having one on the FA sacking Sampson thingy that might generate controversial berating comments about the FA and BBC. The BBC in particular do not tolerate strong criticism about them and avoid providing a public platform for suchlike.

It's not a news story. If he did get charges then that's something to report on, but nothing happened, there's no news to report.

Going to try something new for HYS and put aside tribal blindness. As I understand it, JM was sent to the stands for stepping on to the pitch. If this was the first or second time during the match surely a verbal warning would do? Instant dismissal seems like jobsworthness in the extreme and inappropriate in a match context. I have no love for MU or JM but common sense must override all!

It's the FA's way of saying that the referee got it completely wrong. It's Pawson, so no great surprise; he gets most big decisions wrong. MOTD couldn't even work out what he'd done wrong.

As others have pointed out, this is a complete non story. It only warranted a couple of paragraphs in the report, but hey ho it's Man Utd so it must have a HYS. Typical BBC, they won't let us have a HYS on the farsical FA/Mark Sampson debacle for fear of negative comments.
