Jack Wilshere: Arsene Wenger says England should recall midfielder

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes Gunners midfielder Jack Wilshere should be recalled by England for their friendlies later this month.

Wilshere, 25, has made 34 appearances for England but has not played since the 2-1 loss to Iceland at Euro 2016.

England manager Gareth Southgate announces his squad for the games against Germany and Brazil on Thursday.

"A super-fit Jack, I don't know how you can keep him out of the English squad," Wenger said on Wednesday.

"I think he is ready personally, he was not three weeks ago, but he is ready now. In every single competition he is ready to play."

Wilshere, whose career has been hampered by injuries, spent last season on loan at Bournemouth and is out of contract at Arsenal next summer.

He has made only 80 Premier League starts for Arsenal since his debut nine years ago, and his first league appearance for Wenger's side in 14 months came during last month's 5-2 win at Everton.

But Wenger hailed Wilshere's "outstanding" performance for Arsenal against Bate Borisov in the Europa League in September, suggesting he was "on his way back to his best".

England play Germany at Wembley on Friday, 10 November before another home game against Brazil on Tuesday, 14 November.

Why should England pick him if he's not good enough for your starting 11 Wenger? Once he gets 5-10 prem games under his belt then we'll listen

Sounds like Arsene wants England to use their friendlies as match fitness for Wilshere.

If Arsene rates him and his fitness so highly why not play him more?

Not an Arsenal fan, but if Jack can keep himself fit and injury free and have regular game time - without a doubt, he should be on the plane.

Name another English CM with the same footballing ability, fire and passion?

He's exactly what England are missing...but unfortunately he's also quite a liability.

Why don't you pick him more then Arsene?

Realistically, he wouldn't be any more of a liability than Xhaka.

If he's that good, why have you only given him 13 min of league football? don't ask Southgate to play him just to give him game time if you don't trust him yourself.....

It's one of the minor tragedies of England's recent history that Wilshire has been unable to establish himself in midfield because of all the injuries he's suffered. When he's fit and well, he's way better than people like Henderson and Livermore. The major problem is that 'fit', 'well' and 'Wilshire' rarely appear in the same sentence together.

Wilshere is without doubt our most talented midfielder since the likes of Gerrard/Lampard/Scholes. But with Winks and Potentially Foden in a year or two that would make one very light looking midfield. Dier would have to play alongside 2 of those.
I do though think we need to oust planks like Henderson and Livermore. And Wilshere would get my vote over those two even in his wheelchair

So happy to see Jack back. Hopefully he gets some more minutes in the premier league and has some luck staying injury free and we can see the player we all know he's capable of being!

If it means we can move Henderson out of the team then I'm all for it.... can't bare another England performance like what we have been seeing recently... at least Wiltshire gives us at least a glimpse of creativity.

Firstly Wenger you need to start him more for Arsenal if he is to get taken seriously for England.

Is anyone else fed up with the haters in football ? since when does being a fan automatically mean you have to insult/abuse on other teams ? We could all just support our team in a positive way and accept its a game that at its core is meant to be fun!

If we can put club allegiances and insults to one side surely a fit JW is surely a good option for club and country. I worry that any team with Jordan Henderson as the main midfielder will struggle at the highest level. JW seems to offer more than Henderson when he is fit and at his best.

Jack's style of play demands that he's completely fit. His ability to draw the opposition and release the ball late is valuable as it pull the opposition out of shape... not so good when he gets injured as a result. He can turn defence into attack and operates very well between the lines. Do England have another player with these qualities?

Mr Wenger, please pick him first. If he consistently performs well for you and stays fit then maybe, but if not then job on.
